t was during this dark time that Yin Yoga with Matt was born. With everything in my life feeling out of control, I needed something—anything—that could help me regain a sense of balance and purpose. Yoga had always intrigued me, but I’d never practiced it consistently. Yet, in the quiet, isolated days following my father’s suicide, I felt a pull towards it. Something about the stillness and introspection of Yin Yoga appealed to me in a way that nothing else did.

I began practicing small movements, holding poses for long stretches of time, and focusing on my breath. At first, it was just an attempt to clear my head, but over time, it became much more. Yin Yoga taught me to sit with my discomfort, both physically and emotionally. It allowed me to process my grief and anger in a space where I wasn’t rushing to fix things but simply learning to accept them. As the practice deepened, so did my awareness of the healing potential it held—not just for my body, but for my mind and soul.

Eventually, I realized that this practice was saving me. It gave me clarity and, more importantly, hope. I was slowly coming back to myself, piece by piece. The discipline of Yin Yoga also helped me in my battle with alcohol. It wasn’t an overnight transformation, but as I grew stronger on the mat, I became stronger in other areas of my life. The need to escape through alcohol began to fade as I found new ways to face my inner demons.

My relationship with my wife remained strained, but I was beginning to change, and she noticed. I wasn’t perfect, but I was trying, and that effort opened the door to conversations that we hadn’t been able to have before. My sister, too, saw the change in me, and together, we started to heal from our shared trauma.

Yin Yoga became more than a personal practice; it became a calling. I decided to share what I had learned with others who might be going through similar struggles. I started teaching Yin Yoga online, with the simple goal of helping people find peace within themselves, just as I had. The process of creating Yin Yoga with Matt was cathartic, and it gave me a sense of purpose I hadn’t felt in a long time.

Today, Yin Yoga with Matt isn’t just a business; it’s a community. A place where people come not just to stretch their bodies but to find solace, healing, and transformation. It’s a space where I can openly share my story, hoping it resonates with others who feel lost or hopeless. I’ve learned that life’s challenges—no matter how overwhelming—can be the seeds of something beautiful. Through Yin Yoga, I’ve discovered that healing is possible, even from the darkest places.
